Letters to Cash

Dear Cash,

Happy 3rd Birthday to my first baby!  This blog is heavily dedicated to your baby sister, but today my sweet bully, this blog is all about you.  It's hard to believe you've only been a part of our family for less than three years (we adopted you when you were 8 weeks old.)  It feels like you have always been a part of our family; the heart and soul of our family.   What's even harder to believe is that  three years ago, I didn't even like dogs.  I never had a dog growing up, and I was fairly positive I could happily live my whole life without a canine companion.  And then I fell in love with someone who was a dog person, and he spent a good amount of time telling me how he always dreamed of having a bulldog.  So in one of the most truly unselfish acts I've ever done, I decided to buy your Dad a bulldog for his birthday.  It's funny a true unselfish act of love can be the most rewarding.

I went from not wanting to even touch a dog, to kissing you smack on those big drooly jowls.  I fell head over heels in love with you.  And though a lot of my attention has shifted from cuddling with you to taking care of Layla, I am still madly in love with you.  There is so much that I love about you.  I love how gentle and tender your heart is.  I love how you cock your head to the side when you are a little confused. I love the way you run between our legs and wag your little piggy tail to greet us.I love the way you nuzzle your head into my chest and roll on your back when you want your tummy rubber.  I love the way your tongue hangs out of your mouth when you sleep.  I love how the fur behind your ear is extra soft and the way your paws always smell like Frito chips(I have no idea why, and yes I've smelled your paws.)  I love the way you can sense when someone is sick or sad and climb on their lap as if you are trying to take away all their pain.  And just when I thought I couldn't love you anymore, along came Layla and I found a million more reason to love you.  I love the way you let her climb all over you and just sit there patiently.  I love the way you sneak in kisses behind her ear when you think I'm not looking.  I love the way you sniff her butt to alert me to a dirty diaper.  I love the way you block her from a toy or set of stairs you think might be dangerous.  I love that you let me practice how to be a Momma on you, so I was more prepared to mother her.  Most of all, I love how much you love and protect her.

Cash, you bring warmth and joy to every creature you encounter.  You have enriched my life in more ways than I could tell you, though I have a feeling you already know.

Happy Birthday sweet boy!  You have a little extra peanut butter coming your way!

Love Momma

*This was from Cash's birthday on Saturday, I just forgot to hit publish!  We took him to PetSmart to pick out a new toy and treat and he had a blast.  Grandma and Grandpa also brought over birthday gifts for him and he had lots of extra treats and cuddles.
